LESTER VAN MUYDEN

D: January 12, 2005 at Hull, IA.
Mr. Lester Van Muyden, age 86, of Hull, passed away on Wednesday, January 12, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday, January 15, at 1:30pm, at the American Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Steven Bierly will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation will be after 4:00pm Friday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.
Lester was born on September 20, 1918, at Perkins, the son of Case and Ann (Bonnema) Van Muyden. He was raised at Sioux Center. During World War II, he was in the United States Army, serving in the East Indies, New Guinea, and Luzon.
On October 19, 1945, he married Kathleen Alice Vande Berg at Hull. They made their home in Hull. In earlier years, he operated a custom feed grinder and a baler. Later, he was a Watkins representative. Kathleen passed away on September 4, 1987, in Rock Valley.
On October 7, 1989, "Les" married Lorita Alene Molendorp Rachuy at Sibley. They also made their home in Hull. He lived his entire married life in the same house.
Mr. Van Muyden was a member of the American Reformed Church, where he had served as a deacon on the consistory and was the Sunday school treasurer for many years. He also belonged to the Wegman-Koele American Legion Post in Hull, and he enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife of fifteen years; a daughter and her husband, Jacqulyn "Jackie" and Roger Westra, of Visalia, California; three grandchildren, Eric Westra, and his wife, Ann; Justin Westra; and Jamie, and her husband, Aaron Oliver; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Westra; three step-children and their spouses, Rhonda and Tim Hawkinson, of Madison, Wisconsin; Terry and Arlene Rachuy, of Richmond, Virginia; and Lisa and Joe Shediak, of Omaha, Nebarska; five step-grandchildren; three brothers, Peter Van Muyden, of Sioux Center; Milton Van Muyden, of Sacramento, California; and Glen Van Muyden, of Wilton, California; and a sister, Margaret Brinkhuis, of West Sacramento, California.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Van Muyden; and two sisters, Ethel Gerritson and Leona Mulder.
