Rock Valley, IA: Cecil Van Ness, 81, died Thursday, September 7, 2006 at Hegg Memorial Hospital, Rock Valley. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Monday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Rock Valley. Burial will be at Peace Lutheran Cemetery. Rev. Jim Demke will be officiating. Visitation will be Sunday with the family present 2-4 pm Sunday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.
Cecil was born May 28, 1925 at Fairview, SD, son of Fred and Fannie (Wiarda) Van Ness. Cecil served in the U.S. Navy during WW II from September 30, 1943 thru April 10, 1946. He married Doris Bauer on October 1, 1950 at Zeeland, ND. Together they lived at Canton, SD, Sioux City, IA and then to Rock Valley in 1952. Cecil was a meterman for IPS (now MidAmerican Energy) for 39 years retiring in 1988. Cecil also enjoyed fishing, card playing, bee keeping, and was a member of the Rock Valley VFW.
Cecil was survived by his wife Doris; sons, Perry (Marie) Van Ness of Menomonie,WI, Curtis Van Ness of Milford, IA,Charles (Connie) Van Ness of Lawrence, KS, Fred Van Ness of Spencer, IA; daughter, Sarah Payne of Spencer, IA; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Gertie Sands of Worthington, MN, Annabelle (John) Oldenkamp of Canton, SD, Alice (Aaron) Eiesland of Brainard, MN.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Jeffrey; and brother, Richard Van Ness.
