Hawarden Independent (22 Feb 1934)

Chas Elliott of Eagle Grove, early day resident of Hawarden and brother of D.W. Elliott of this city, died in a hospital at Ft. Dodge Wednesday evening, Feb 14th from peritonitis following an operation for a ruptured appendix to which he had submitted on Feb 10th. Funereal service were held at the funeral chapel in Eagle Grove Friday afternoon with members of the Masonic order in charge and interment was made in the cemetery there. D.W. Elliott and son Dexter motored to Eagle Grove last Thursday to attend the funeral, returning home Saturday evening.

Charles Elliott was born at Fort Fairfield, Maine, May 10, 1869, so lacked but three months of being 65 years of age. The family moved to Sanborn, Iowa, more than fifty years age and a few years later located at Paullina. Mr. Elliott’s father was a tailor and the son learned this trade with his father while living at Paullina. He worked at tailoring in various parts of the county and finally opened a shop of his own at Boscobel, Wis. , but remained there only a short time, coming to Hawarden about 40 years age . He was engaged in the tailoring business in the city three or four years, most of the time in partnership with M. Schon. He left Hawarden thirty seven years ago and except for a brief period of time has continued actively in the tailoring business there ever since.

After leaving Hawarden Mr. Elliott was united in marriage with Miss Etta Hannam at Lancester, Wis. Mrs. Elliott died about five years ago.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Everett Cotton of Watertown, SD., and Miss. Genevieve Elliott, who is employed as a trained nurse at Gillette, Wyo., Miss Genevieve ??? Elliott, who is employed as an auditor in a department store in New York His brother D.W.Elliott of Hawarden is the only surviving member of the Elliott family
