Alberta E. Langstraat
Alberta Edna Langstraat, 87, of Orange City died Monday, March 6; a the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City. A memorial service was Thursday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Jonathan Opgenorth officiating. Interment was at the Capel Township Cemetery, near Middleburg.

Mrs. Langstraat was born on May 26, 1918, in rural Orange City, the daughter of Albert and Jeanette (Grooters) Slothouber. She was raised on her family's farm near Middleburg. She graduated from Northwestern Classical Academy and attended Northwestern College in Orange City. She then was a teacher in country schools between Orange City and Middleburg. On June 10, 1941, she married William Langstraat Jr. at Middleburg. They farmed near Middleburg, where she was a homemaker. Later, she became a nurse's aide at the Heritage House.

Her husband-died on March 6, 1973, at Middleburg. In the fall of 1973, she moved into Orange City, where she was 'a waitress part-time. Later, she moved to the Pioneer Court and Pioneer Home in Orange City. In 2004, she became a resident of the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement. Community in Orange City and in December of 2005, she transferred to the Heritage House. She was a member o'f the Trinity Reformed Church, where she participated in the women's organizations-and sang in the choir. In earlier years, she belonged to the Free Grace Reformed Church in Middleburg, where she was a Sunday schoolteacher and pianist. She enjoyed doing handwork and loved music, especially accompanying groups on the piano.

Survivors include her four children, Wayne Langstraat and his wife Kathy of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Dr. Dennis Langstraat and his wife Lynda of Nicollet, Minnesota, Dr. Ruth Langstraat and her friend Roxanne White- Light of Westlake, Ohio, and Roger Langstraat and his wife Sandy of Sioux Center; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Mouw of Orange City. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Annetta Boone and Genevieve Mouw, Memorials may be directed to Hope Haven in Rock Valley or Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon.
