Dick Langstraat, 94, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Orange City, died Thursday, February 22, at the Good , Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls. Funeral service was Monday, February 26, at 3 p . m . in the chapel of First Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. David Ter Beest officiating. Interment was at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Langstraat was born on December 8, 1912, in rural Hospers, the son of William and Jennie (Van Meeteren) Langstraat. He was raised mostly in the Orange City area and he served in the United States Army during World War II. On March 7, 1941, he married Minnie Vander Vegte in Orange City. They made their home in Orange City, where he owned and operated a truck tractor, hauling for a variety of businesses, including Peter S. De Jong and Pals Transfer.

In 2001, they moved to the Good Samaritan Village. His wife died there on April 3, 2005, after more than 64 years of marriage. He was a member of First Reformed Church, where he and his wife were faithful listeners of their radio broadcasts. He also belonged to the Pressman- Kosters American Legion Post in Orange City. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and watching the birds in the aviary, at the nursing home. In earlier years, he was a Mr. Fix-it, who liked working on engines. •

Survivors are his daughter and her husband, Karen and Jerry Edmunds of Sioux Falls; two granddaughters; a great-grandson; a brother, Peter Langstraat of Orange City; two sisters, Jennie Vande Brake of Maurice and Angelina Torrenga of Clinton, Wisconson; and many nephews and nieces. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Cornie, Howard, John and William Langstraat. Memorials will be directed to the Good Samaritan Village.
