Sioux Center News July 2007
Henry W. Langstraat, 68, of Hull died Wednesday, July 2 , at Mercy Medical Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service was Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Carmel Reformed Church of rural Rock Valley, with the Rev. Mark Heijerman officiating. Interment was in Carmel Cemetery of rural Rock Valley.
Langstraat was born on April 13, 1939, to Case and Ethel (Kastein) Langstraat in Sioux Center. He was raised on a farm in rural Sioux Center and attended the Sioux Center School. He was proud to have served his country as part of the armed forces.

He married Carol Vander Vliet on June 15, 1965 at the Carmel Reformed Church. They first lived in Sioux Center, and then moved to an acreage near Carmel where they have lived since.

He worked very hard at a variety of jobs throughout his life, sortie of which included farming, Coop Gas & Oil, Sioux Preme Packing and Van's Poultry. He then ventured out on his own and started Sooland Fresh Egg, delivering eggs to a wide variety of businesses in a large surrounding area. He was known to many as "the Eggman." Finally he worked at a local lumberyard.

He was always proud to be a member of Carmel Reformed Church. He served as a deacon and elder and sang in the choir. He and his wife also enjoyed being youth sponsors. One of the things he had a great love for was singing with the Carmel Quartet and also with the Carmel Lights. He was an avid race fan, and also loved to watch any of the sports in which his children and grandchildren were involved.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years; four daughters and their husbands, and one son, Mike and Pat Buyert of Middleburg, Phil and Wendi Kats of Hull, Jason Langstraat of Games, Matt and Kristi Segar of Hull and Brent and Kelli Hooyer of Maurice; 10 grandchildren; two sisters and their husbands, Frank and Marilyn Kruid of Maurice and Tim and Edna Lawson of Greenville; and one brother and his wife, Clint and Ruth Langstraat of Wellsville, Kansas. He will also be remembered by his wife's family, Katherine Vander Vliet of Sioux Center, Leon and Audrey Rus of Ireton, Larry and Brenda Van Dyke of Le Mars, Lyle and Linda Vander Vliet of Sergeant Bluff and Curt Vander Vliet of Sioux Center, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Ed Vander Vliet.

The Langstraat family prefers memorials to the Carmel Reformed Church New Horizon Fund or Carmel Reformed Relay For Life Team.
