DEATH TAKES MRS LANSDOWNE
Former Hawarden Resident Passes Away in Kansas Mrs. Olive S. Lansdowne, a former resident of this community for several years, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Jan. 22, 1942, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. L. Peak, Parsons, Kans., at the advanced age of 83 years, 11 months and 17 days. She had suffered a stroke at 2 a.m. that same day.

She had been in excellent health for one her age until the stroke. She remained in a coma after being stricken until she passed quietly into her last sleep. Olive Susan Lansdowne was born Feb. 5, 1858, in Carter county, Ky., the second child in a family of 11. Her parents, two sisters and five brothers preceded her in death. At the age of 12 years, she moved to Lawrence, Kans., with her family. Here she received her education and united with the Methodist church, remaining true to this faith since.

In Sept, 1879, she was married at Liberty, Mo,, to a distant cousin, John C. Lansdowne. They made their home in Missouri and northern Kansas until 1903 when they moved to southeastern Kansas, where she reared her family of nine children. Her husband passed away April 4,1917, the eldest child, Frank H., Oct. 5, 1926, the second child, Robert L., Nov. 2, 1941. The seven children surviving her are Jess L., Huntsville, Ark., Mrs. Edyth E. Peak, Parsons, Kans., Mrs. Annettie Francisco, Oswego, Kans., Willard H., Parsons, Kans., H. A. Lansdowne, Hawarden, Mrs. Maye B. Middleton, Altoona, Kans., and Mrs. Sarah N. Ervin, Hawarden.

She is survived also by 36 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, one brother, Z. T. Lansdowne, Coffeyville, Kans., two sisters, Miss Lucy Lansdowne. of Coffeyville, Kans., and Mrs. Emily McGee, Strong City, Kans. Funeral services were Sunday, Jan. 25. Six grandsons were pall bearers and two granddaughters sang two favorite hymns, and burial was in the family lot beside her husband in Oakwood cemetery at Parsons, Kans. Mrs. Lansdowne spent a long, useful life, always with the comforts and interests of her family centering around them. This quiet, home-loving patient, mother, grandmother and sister will be greatly missed by all her family and host of relatives and friends. H. A. Lansdowne and Mrs. John Ervin and children of Hawarden attended the funeral.
