Sioux County Capital, August 15, 1940

Mrs. Gerrit Kuiken died at her home in Orange City Friday evening at the age of 50 years, 9 months and 12 days. She had not been feeling well for the last few years, but had been seriously ill for about 5 days.

She was born October 28, 1889 near Maurice and was the former Minnie Van Horsen, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Gerrit Van Horsen. She was united in marriage to Gerrit Kuiken, February 22, 1911, and to this union 3 children were born. One daughter and 1 son died in infancy.

Mrs. Kuiken will be remembered as a kind and loving woman. She was patient in her suffering and longed to go Home to her Saviour.

She is survived by her widower; 1 daughter, Vaida, Mrs. Bernard Vander Zwaag of northeast of town' 2 grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Gerrit Van Horsen of Orange City; and 3 brothers and 3 sisters; Will Van Horsen of Maurice; P. H. Van Horsen of Artesia, Calif.; Arthur of Bellflower, Calif.; Anna, Mrs. H. W. Brink of Maurice; Elizabeth, Mrs. Henry De Jong, and Nelly, Mrs. H. F. De Haan both of Orange City.

She is also survived by her aged mother-in-law, Mrs. Jake Borgman; 3 sisters-in-law, Nellie, Mrs. John Vander Meulen; Rose, Mrs. Gerrit M. Raak, all of Orange City; Gertie, Mrs. John G. Brink of Maurice, and 2 brothers-in-law; Martin Kuiken of Orange City and Frank Kuiken of Maurice.

The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home and at 1:30 at the First Ref. Church in Orange City with Rev. Mr. J. W. Brink of Maurice, in charge. Rev. Mr. Brink is a friend of the family. Rev. Mr. H. Colenbrander offered prayer at the cemetery service. Pall bearers were: Will Korver, Paul Mouw, Lou Wielenga, Gerrit Riphagen, Al Giesen and Peter Vander Zwaag. Interment was made in the Orange City cemetery.

Among those attending the funeral were: Mrs. P. H. Van Horsen of Artesia, Calif; Miss Eleanor Van Horsen of Bellflower, Calif; Messrs and Mesdames Ralph Woodburn and son Ronald of Rock Rapids, Peter Porter of Hospers, Jake Porter of Inwood, Will Martin of Estherville, Ode Van Horsen and daughter Joy of Havelock, John Meylink of Rock Valley, Hubert De Jong of Newkirk, John Peelen of Sheldon, Misses Rebekah and Rose Van Horsen, Mrs. Smith and son George all of Worthington, Minn., and Lou Van Horsen of Laurens.
