E. R. Day passed away at his home in Ireton last Thursday noon. He had been in failing health for some time and about a month ago went to Rochester, Minn., for consultation where he was advised that there was no relief for his physical condition. He failed rapidly during the past month until the end came last Thursday. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. A. Kettle, pastor of the M. E. Church, and a large company of those who had known Mr. Day gathered to pay him the respects due a man of such sterling worth, who with unassuming manner went about his life work in such a quiet way. Interment was made in the Ireton cemetery.

Edwin Rufus Day was born July 2, 1847 in Green County, Wis., being the second child of a family of six, four sons and two daughters. On Aug. 6, 1871 Mr. Day was united in marriage with Adelia Peebles in Green County, Wis., and soon thereafter came to Sioux County where they took a homestead five miles southeast of Ireton. Here their family of fourteen children were born, five of whom died while quite young. When a young man Mr. Day was baptized and united with the Advent church of which his parents were members and he held to this faith throughout his life. In 1906 his health began to show signs of breaking after thirty-five years on the farm amidst pioneer conditions and the many hardships and privations due to those times and in 1907 the family moved to town where they have since resided. Besides the widow he is survived by the following sons and daughters: Joseph W., North Yakima, Wash; James E., Ogden, Utah; George M., Auburn, Wash.; Ross V., Paullina, Iowa; Debert, Spencer, SD; Robert P., Redwood Falls, Minn.; Mrs. S. C. Bushby, Eva and Daisy Day of Ireton. He also leaves thirteen grandchildren as well as three brothers and one sister, Mrs. Linn of Tacoma, Wash.; Albert L. Day of Waukesha, Wis.; Lewis E. Day of Emporia, Kan., and William V. Day of Auburn, Wash.
