Hawarden Independent, January 15, 1953

Tom Dawson, 56, a life long resident of the Hawarden and Hudson communities, died last Wednesday at the Hawarden hospital where he had been a patient two months. Mr. Dawson had been ill a long time suffering from a heart ailment.

A son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Dawson, he was born on a farm northwest of Hawarden December 30, 1896. After completing his elementary education he was graduated from Hawarden High School. While attending South Dakota State College at Brookings, he was called into the services of World War I.

On December 22, 1939, he was married to Miss Lulu Larson of Hudson and they lived on a farm between Hawarden and Hudson.

Survivors are the widow; four children, Sandra, 12, Tommy, 10, Charley, 8 and Quinton, 5; his aged mother, Mrs. Charles Dawson; one brother, J. C. Dawson of Hawarden; three sisters, Miss Anne, at home at the present; Mrs. Viva Marshall, who teachers at Doon, and Miss Laura, who teaches at Winnetka, Ill.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Hawarden and the American Legion of Hudson.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Congregational church in Hudson with Rev. David Graham, the pastor, assisted by Rev. Christopherson of the Hudson Lutheran Church, officiating.

The Masonic Lodge of Hawarden gave the ritualistic work and the American Legion of Hudson was in charge of the military service at the grave. Burial was in Eden Cemetery at Hudson under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home of Hawarden.
