Funeral services were held Friday, March 5 at Trinity Lutheran Church at Hawarden, for Henry Richard Ludwig, who died March 2 at the Hillcrest home. Pastor Dwight Rengstorf officiated and burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were grandsons, James, Kenneth, Dennis, Ronald Ludwig, Mark Sorenson and Jim Vail.

Henry Richard Ludwig, son of Ernest Henry Ludwig and Hedwig, nee Richter, was born in Sioux Valley township, Union County, S.D. on September 19, 1888. On April 18, 1917 he married Anne Jepsen. They farmed in the Alcester area until 1950 when they moved to town.

Although his steps were slower he enjoyed working with his son, Stanley on the farm and for various friends in town. He enjoyed life until about the last five years when he became ill and was in the hospital several times. Tuesday afternoon he was finally called home to rest, having reached the age of 87 years, 5 months and 3 days.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Gary Sorenson, 4 brothers, Charles, Hugo, William and Otto; 3 sisters, Lena and Hedwig Ludwig and Clara Fischer.

Those remaining to mourn his passing are his widow, Anna, 2 sons, Stanley of Alcester; Lowell of Hudson; two daughtes, Mildred (Mrs. Albert) Sorenson, and Marilyn (Mrs. Orrin) Anderson of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Mrs. Nellie Gasser of Albert Lee, MN; Mrs. Anna Peterson, Mrs. Bertha Peterson and Mrs. Elma Bern all of Alcester.
