Visser, Dora, Mrs. Pleun, 1899-1988

Mrs. Dora Visser, age 88, of Orange City, passed away Friday, July 29, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.

Dora was born December 20, 1899, in Sioux County, the daughter of Henry Haarsma and Mary Groot Haarsma. On February 4, 1920, she married Pleun Visser at Maurice. They farmed in Sioux County. Mr. Visser passed away in June of 1936 at Maurice.

In 1938, Mrs. Visser moved into Orange City. In 1982, she became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Orange City and the church's Thy Kingdom Come Society.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mrs. Randall (Bertha) Van Gelder and Mrs. Merlin (Marie) Rowenhorst; and son, Paul, all of Orange City; 26 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Clarence Haarsma, of Maurice; and Henry Haarsma, of Orange City.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Henry, Ivan, and Clarence; brother, Peter Haarsma; and four sisters, Tena Wielenga, Elizabeth Vegter, Mae Bonthuis, and Nell Reinders.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 1, at the First Christian Reformed Church, with the Rev. Dr. Carl Zylstra officiating. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, under the direction of the VanEtten-Oolman-VanGelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
