Olive Visser, age 85, of Rock Valley, formerly of Lynden, Washington, died Friday, May 23, 1997 at the Hegg Memorial Hospital at Rock Valley. Visitation was Sunday at the Porter Funeral Home at Rock Valley. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden, Washington. Burial was at the Monumento Cemetery at Lynden.
Olive DeJong was born May 29, 1911 at Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was the daughter of A. S. and Sjoukje (Wouters) DeJong. The family lived at Edgerton, MN and Sioux Center, IA before moving back to Grand Rapids, Michigan where Olive graduated from high school and obtained her RN degree at the Blodgett Hospital School of Nursing. Olive married Ralph A. Visser on November 25, 1948 at Grand Rapids, Michigan. Together they farmed near Everson, Washington before retiring and moving near Lynden, Washington in 1978. Ralph and Olive moved to Rock Valley, IA in April of 1987. Ralph died February 8, 1988.
Surviving relatives include one son and his wife, Andy and Jolene Visser of Rock Valley, IA; one daughter and her husband, Mrs. Michael (Sharlotte) Rau of Grand Rapids, Michigan; two brothers, Walter and his wife Johanna DeJong of Jenison, Michigan, George DeJong of Palos Heights, Illinois; three sisters, Bessie Klein of Gallup, New Mexico, Mrs. Nick (Hilda) Ouwengaol, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Mrs. Simon (Jennie) Visser of Tinley Park, Illinois; seven grandchildren.
