Ruth Visser, 93, of Hawarden, died Friday, April 21, 2000 at her residence in Hawarden from an apparent heart attack.

Funeral service was Monday at the Christian Reformed Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Jeff Voorhees officiating. Burial was in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Kathryn Visser was born May 13, 1906 to Jacobus and Rose (Knippel) Mieras near Maurice. She attended country school near Hawarden. On Feb. 25, 1926 she married Tony Visser at her parents' home near Hawarden. To this union were born six children. The couple farmed in the Hawarden area. She was a cook and receptionist at the Hawarden Community Hospital for many years. Mr. Visser died in 1969.

Mrs. Visser was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Hawarden and a long-time member of the Dorcus Society and Sunday School teacher at the church. She was a member of the Hawarden Hospital Auxiliary and for the last few years a volunteer helper at the Hillcrest Health Care Center.

She is survived by six children: Evelyn Huenink and her husband Henry of Hawarden; Jean Wiseman and her husband John of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Helen Nobel and husband Bernie of LaBelle, Fla.; Art Visser of Soledad, Calif.; Bill Visser and his wife Christy of Orange City; and Betty Jakes and her husband Tim of Omaha, Neb.; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Eddie Mieras of Omaha, Neb.; sister, Virginia Bruget of Hawarden; and sister-in-law, Lily Mieras of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tony; 3 sisters, Dena Taylor, Gertrude Sluiter and Ada Dykstra; 2 brothers, Dingnes Mieras and Lewis Mieras; and three grandchildren.
