Gilbert Visser, 69, of Hospers died Monday, June 13, in a hospital in Orange City.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 16, at Christian Reformed Church in Hospers with the Rev. Mark Beach officiating. Burial was in the Hospers Cemetery.

Visser was born September 12, 1918, in Maurice, the son of Teunis and Elizabeth (Akkerhuis) Visser. He married Caroline Peters February 12, 1942, in Rock Valley. He farmed for 43 years near Sheldon and retired to Hospers in 1985.

He was a member of Christian Reformed Church where he served as deacon and elder. He also served on the Hospers Christian School board.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Twila Hofmeyer of Paullina; two sons, Ken and Rod, both of Sheldon; three brothers, William, Gerrit and Pete, all of Sioux Center; a sister, Adrianna Kots of Birnamwood, Wisconsin; and seven grandchildren.
