R. H. Patterson, the father of Mrs. Emma Hawkins, of Hull, and a resident of Hull, from 1886 to 1891. died May 19th. at his home in Merrill. Iowa.
He was a much respected citizen.

Death of Well Known Resident. Robert Patterson. Sr., died at his home in this city Sunday evening, May 19th, 1901. after an illness of nearly three weeks. The beginning of the end was caused by a bad cold contracted during the cold rainy weather of three weeks ago. No one ailment caused his death but a general collapse of the entire physical system. The funeral was held Tuesday, being conducted by Rev. T. M. House of the First M. E. church. The interment being made in the Merrill cemetery.
Mr. Patterson was one of our most prominent citizens who always took an active interest in governmental affairs. He has held many offices of trust and honor in this city, at Hull, Iowa, and a t his old home at Momonce. IL.
R. H. Patterson was born in Scotland October 29,1827. where most of his boyhood was spent. In 1848 he came to America and engaged in business
for several years in New York city. From New York he came to Momonce, Illinois, being one of the earliest settlers of that state. He engaged in farming in Illinois where he met with, much success. In I886 he followed " the star of Empire'' and came west. He located a t Hull, Iowa, where he resided until l894, At Hull the citizens honored him by electing him to many offices among them the mayoralty of their city. In 1894 he came to Merrill where he spent the remainder of his life.
In 1851 Angnst 25. Robert Patterson was married to Miss Maggie Neal. To this conple were born eight children, one son and seven daughters. Robert Patterson, of Worthington, Minn. ; Mrs. Dellia Durbridge. Of Momence, IL. : Mrs. Jane Dennis. Peotone. ILI. : Mrs. Effie Crouch. .Merrill, Iowa; Mrs. Lucinda Hawkins, Reading. Minn. : Mrs. Emma Hawkins, Hull, Iowa; Mary and Martha Patterson died in youth.—Merrill Record
