Mrs. Walter Schreur
The sudden passing of Mrs. Walter Schreur early Sunday morning was a sad shock to her family, friends and the entire Alton community, where she has lived since her marriage in 1923.
Mrs. Schreur had been in her usual good health until stricken with a heart attack
about 3:15 a.m. when she aroused her husband and asked him to call the doctor. A previous
attack last spring had yielded quickly to treatment but in this instance although medical aid arrived promptly she did ,not respond to treatment and passed on shortly thereafter.
Jennie Smits was born June 10, 1889 at Maurice, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John
Smits of that vicinity. She had reached the age of 53 years last June. She attended the rural school nearest her home and assisted in the parental home until her marriage March 28, 1923 to Walter Schreur. They settled in a home just northwest of Alton and became parents of eight children, of
whom the yoimgest Is 11 years. All except three are still at !home.
She is survived by her husband and children: Geraldine at home, Gertrude, a teacher at Sheldon; Pfc. Robert, Camp Atterbury, Ind., Dorothy, employed in the County Extension Office at Primghar, Loretta, Arend, Joyce and Raymond, at home; a half brother and sister: Arle Smits and Mrs. Dick Haarsma, both of Orange City; four sisters and four (brothers, namely: Mrs. John Ruisch, Theodore Smits, William Smits, all of Maurice; Dick Smits of Plymouth, Iowa; Esther Smits of Maurice; Mrs. Wm. Jongbloed, Clark, S. D.; Marvin Smits, Winside, Nebr.; Mrs. Ivan Medsker, Los Angeles, Calif.
Funeral services Were held Wednesday at 1:30 in the home and at 2:00 in the First Reformed
church of Alton. Rev. Straks of Orange City officiated in the absence of the local pastor.
