Arthur Ten Haken
HULL, Iowa — Arthur Ten Haken, 85, of Hull, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. Services will be Monday, Jan. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Verlyn Boone will officiate. Burial will be in the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.
Mr. Ten Haken was born June 17, 1913, in Hull, the son of Albert and Dirkie (Bakker) Ten Haken. He married Hilda Lane Wissink on June 4, 1936 in Hull. They farmed near Hull for 40 years, retiring in 1976. He became a resident of the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon in 1996. He transferred to Pleasant Acres in December, 1998. He loved music, especially singing in quartets. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, wintering in Ariz, for 17 years. He was an active member of the First Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory as an elder and a deacon.
He is survived by his wife; five children, Harlan and his wife, Thelma of Hull, Audrey and her husband. Gary Miller of Surprise, Ariz., Beverly and her husband Raymond Schreur of Alton Iowa, Karen Kosters, of Sioux Center, Iowa, and Lyle and his wife, Beth, of Worthington, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Wolfswinkel, of Hull.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Willis; and two sisters, Johanna Bonestroo and Margaret De Leeuw.
