VERDOORN, DEJAGER, VINK, FEDDERS

Dick Verdoorn, 90, died Friday, May 28 at an Orange City Hospital after a brief illness.

Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Alton Reformed Church. The Rev. Ray Tilstra officiated. Burial was in the cemetery at Middleburg. Family visitation was from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Van Gelder Funeral Home, Orange City.

Mr. Verdoorn was born on Jan. 17, 1892, in Middleburg. He married Lena De Jager on Feb. 11, 1911, in Middleburg. She died on March 22, 1940. He then married Nettie Vink Fedders on Oct. 25, 1946 in Alton. She died on July 21, 1981.

The Verdoorns lived in the Orange City vicinity. He was a farmer until he retired in 1942 and moved to the Orange City area. He moved into the Pioneer Home, Orange City, in 1973. He was a member of the Alton Reformed Church where he served as elder.

Survivors include one daughter, Mr. Arie (Alice) Mans of Orange City; two stepsons, Dick Fedders of Sheldon and Gerald Fedders of Glenwood; four step-daughters, Mrs. Jay (Bernice) Pruis of Morrison, Ill., Mrs. Henry (Nettie) Mellema and Mrs. John (Marie) Maassen, both of Orange City and Mrs. Frank (Johanna) De Haan of Hudsonville, Mich.; five brothers, Jake of Seattle, Cornie of Ashton, Bill of Hospers, and Burt and Tony, both of Orange City; four sisters, Mrs. Ann Oldenkamp of Sheldon, Mrs. Fannie Oldenkamp of Hospers, Miss Marie Verdoorn of Seattle and Mrs. Lou (Gertrude) Engeltjes of Boyden, 30 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
