Funeral Services For Tom Ver Doorn

Tom Ver Doorn passed away about five o'clock Thursday morning in the Sacred Heart hospital in Le Mars after a short illness.

Tom Ver Doorn was born in the Netherlands July 30, 1888 and came to this country and to this vicinity when a child with his parents. He was married to Sadie Zwaan, March 24, 1915 at Rock Valley and the following children were born: Ellen (Mrs. Henry De Vries), Hudson; Katherine (Mrs. James Kots), Fairview; Joel, Whittier, Calif.; and Greta (Mrs. Elmer Veldkamp), Rock Rapids.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters, Joe of Rock Valley; Dick, Rock Valley; William in California; Martin of Ashton; Mary De Groot, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Bertha (Mrs. Arie Gaalswyk), Rock Valley; Toni (Mrs. Henry Van Woudenberg) and Grace (Mrs. Bert Bliek) both of Inwood. One brother and his parents preceded him in death.

Tom Ver Doorn farmed in this community for several years and then purchased a drayline which he successfully operated for several years. Of late years he was employed by the Funk Seed Corn Company.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the home at 1:00 o'clock and in the high school auditorium at 1:30 with Wooster Pattan and Clyde Johnson officiating and the Vander Ploeg Funeral home of Sioux Center. Burial took place in the Valley View Cemetery. Pallbearers were Paul Groenweg, Paul Pember, Gerrit Doorn, Dan De Jonge, Gerrit Kots and Al Veldkamp.

A shorter obituary was published in the Sioux Center News (January 27). It gives his birth date as July 3, 1887. It gives his daughter Ellen's residence as Fairview, S. Dak., his daughter Katherine's residence as Hudson, and his son's name as Joe.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index gives his birth date as July 30, 1887.
