Mr. Joe Verdoorn, age 79, of Sheldon, died Oct. 1 at a Sanborn nursing home. Services were held on Sat., Oct. 5th at the First Reformed Church of Sheldon with Rev. Peter Holwerda and Rev. Thomas Vander Ziel officiating. Burial was in the East Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home.

Mr. Verdoorn was born Sept. 20, 1895 at Middleburg. He married Jessie DeJager August 31, 1918 at Sheldon. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Sybrand (Alice) Hoffringa of Lismore, Minn. and Mrs. Lester (Gertrude) Vogelaar of Worthington, Minn.; two sons, William of Adrian, Minn. and Mitchell of Hartley; four sisters, Mrs. Ann Oldenkamp and Mrs. John (Fannie) Oldenkamp, Sr., both of Hospers, Miss Marie Verdoorn of Seattle, Wash. and Mrs. Lewis (Gertrude) Engeltjes of Boyden; eight brothers, Dick, Bert and Anthony, all of Orange City, Henry, John, and William all of Hospers, Jake of Seattle and Cornie of Ashton; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
