Hawarden Independent, December 5, 1918

Mr. & Mrs. H. B. Dalgleish were called to Buffalo, N.Y., last Wednesday by a message announcing the serious illness of their son George who was enroute from Camp Upton to Camp Grant, Ill, and had been taken ill at Buffalo. They arrived there Thursday night and found him a very sick boy. He passed away Saturday night. They arrived home with the body Tuesday noon, accompanied by a soldier escort. Funeral services wee held at the Catholic Church in Akron, Wednesday morning and he was laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery at that place. George was one of the first boys from this community to enlist in his country's service when war was declared. He was at once sent to Camp Winfield Scott, Calif., where he remained until just before the armistice was signed when he was transfered to Camp Upton, and was all ready to be sent overseas. When hostilities ceased he was ordered back to Camp Grant. He was taken sick on the way and he was taken from the train at Buffalo. Words fail to give full expression to our feeling in times like this and all that we can say is that George was one of the best boys we have ever known, and we knew him all his life. His death was a severe shock to the community and a terrible blow to the immediate family who have the heartfelt sympathy of all in their deep sorrow.
