Verrips, Mrs. Jacob (Jennie) - 1889-1948

Sioux Center News, April 22, 1948

Mrs. Jake Verips passed away at her home in Whittier, Calif. on Wednesday, April 14. She fractured her hip in a fall last summer and later on became ill due to a heart condition. She had reached the age of 58 years and 11 months.

Mrs. Verrips, nee Jennie DeZeeuw, was born near Middleburg on May 24, 1889. In the year of 1907 she was united in marriage to Mr. Verrips who now survives her with the three children: Gradus of Sioux Center, Paul of Bellflower, Calif., and Anna Pearl of Whittier. She is further survived by four grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters - Elizabeth (Mrs. Eibert DeLeeuw) of Orange City; Jake and Pleum both of Boyden; Helen (Mrs. John Hubbeling) of Whittier, Calif.; Anna (Mrs. Bert Keizer) of Hawarden; Peter DeZeeuw of Boyden; William of Ruthton, Minn.; Rufus DeZeeuw of Holland, Minn., Johanna (Mrs. John Groen) of Orange City; and Magadalene, Mrs. Cornie Den Hartog) of Orange City.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Nellie, and her parents, and she was the first one to pass away in a family of eleven children.

The family made their home here until 1945, when they moved to California where Mr. Verrips is employed as janitor in a machine shop.

Funeral services were held here on Monday afternoon at one o'clock at the home of her son, Gradus, and at one-thirty o'clock at the Central Reformed Church. Rev. Banjamin Ver Steeg officiated at the services assisted by Rev. Woodward of Orange City.

Burial took place at the local cemetery and acting as pall bearers were Jake DeZeeuw, Gary Verrips, Paul DeZeeuw, Calvin Groen, Paul Den Hartog and Gilbert Keizer.
