Sheldon - Florence Verrips, 93, Sheldon, died Sunday, Nov. 23, at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.

Services were Wednesday, Nov. 26, at United Methodist Church in Sheldon, with the Rev. Marvin Lindley officiating. Burial was at Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden, under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Florence Verrips, daughter of Henry & Mae (McGranahan) Merley, was born June 21, 1910 in Sheldon. She received her education in a country school. She married Max Thorman in 1930 in Granville. To this union two children were born, Gerald and Shirley. Mr. Thorman died on March 25, 1938, following a car accident. She moved back to Sheldon, living and working with her parents on the farm. She married Marion Verrips of Boyden on Dec. 14, 1949. They lived in Boyden until Mr. Verrips died on Sept. 26, 1974. She moved to Sheldon, and lived there until April 2003, when she moved to Prairie View Home in Sanborn. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Sheldon.

Survivors include a son, Gerald and Lois Thorman of Sheldon; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Vos of California; two brothers, Glen Merley of Spirit Lake, and John and Mildred Merley of Sheldon; and two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Merley and Gertrude Merley of Sheldon.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Max Thorman and Marion Verrips; a daughter, Shirley Thorman on Aug. 17, 1969; three brothers, Robert Merley, Joe Merley and Louis Merley; and four sisters and their husbands, Leta Heiliger Carl, Beulah Jacobs, Mary Bilsland and Hazel Overman.
