Rock Valley, Iowa: Peter Edward Davelaar, 68, of Rock Valley died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m., Friday at Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley, with the Rev. G. M. de Leeuw officiating. Burial will be prior to the service Friday in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will be today, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Peter Edward Davelaar was born Jan. 25, 1935, near Rock Valley, the son of William and Nellie (Rus) Davelaar. He attended Garfield Township Country School.

He married Gertrude Vander Linden on Jan. 3, 1955. Gertrude and an unborn child died June 19, 1968. He married Wilma Klarenbeek on Jan. 24, 1981. Together, they farmed the Davelaar farm southwest of Rock Valley.

He was a lifetime member of Netherlands Reformed Church. He was a board member of the Community Oil for 15 years, serving as president for 10 years. He loved woodworking, camping and fishing, especially when he was doing these with family.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Wilma; four sons, Rich and his wife, Bonnie and Ken and his wife, Deb, all of Rock Valley; Jeff and his wife, Lori of Hudson, SD, and David Davelaar of Sioux Center, Iowa; three daughters, Connie and her husband, Dennis Post; Becky Davelaar and Dana Davelaar, all of Rock Valley; two brothers and their wives, Willie and Henrietta of Rock Valley, and Cornie and Alvina of Sioux Center; a sister-in-law, Carol (Arvin) Van Essen of Inwood, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Gertrude; a granddaughter, Cindy Post, and his father-in-law Ray Klarenbeek.
