Hawarden Independent, January 31, 1907

Nancy M. Davis died Monday evening at her home on the Northside, at the advanced age of 76 years and nine months. She had been an invalid for many years and though a constant sufferer, she bore her ills with fortitude, until death kindly released her from her pain. She was born near Portsmouth, Ohio in 1830 and was married in 1852 at New Castle, Ind., to Ira W. Davis. In 1855 they moved to Des Moines and in 1869 came to Union County, SD., locating on a homestead six miles north of this city. In 1883 they moved to Calliope, where they have since resided. Besides her husband she leaves six children to mourn her death. They are Joseph L. of Presho, SD, Jacob and Sylvester in Oregon, John and William of Hawarden and Mrs. Hettie Brunskill of Kimball. The funeral was held yesterday at the M.E. church. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of all in their loss of a loving wife and fond mother.

She and her husband located on a Dakota homestead in that vicinity in
1869. She was born in Ohio. She is buried in Grace hill Hawarden
