Hawarden Independent, July 8, 1948

Omer Byg, 36, of Dows, a former Hawarden resident, was instantly killed Tuesday afternoon when a motor patrol on which he was working turned over on him, crushing his chest. Mr. Byg was working on a sloping grade when the accident occurred.

Mrs. Byg's parents, Mr. & Mrs. F. H. Houlton and Oliver Tunell went to Dows when they learned of the tragedy. They returned yesterday afternoon, accompanied by Mrs. Byg and daughter.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at Sioux Falls.

A son of Mr. & Mrs. Peter Byg, he was born at Hartford, SD, March 18, 1912. He married Myrna Houlton Christmas Day, 1945.

Survivors are his wife and baby daughter, Cynthia Kay; four other children, Norma, Bobbie, Judy and Dennis from a former marriage; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Peter Byg of Sioux Falls, and three sisters and three brothers.
