Sioux Center News, July 22, 1965

Funeral services were held at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church here at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 21, for Henry John Davelaar, 84, retired farmer and long time resident of Sioux Center, who died at the Sioux Center Community hospital Monday, July 19, following a short illness.

Services were conducted by the Rev. B. J. Haan and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery under the direction of the Co-operative Funeral Service.

Mr. Davelaar was born September 13, 1880 in The Netherlands, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Gerrit Davelaar. He grew to young manhood there and was married in Holland to Cornelia Vander Pol on March 6, 1903.

Eight years later, in October of 1911, the couple immigrated to the United States and settled in Sioux Center. The following March they moved to a farm near Edgerton, Minn., where they resided for 17 years. In 1929 they moved to a farm near Mobridge and resided there for 10 years prior to retiring in 1939 and moving into Sioux Center.

Survivors besides his widow include a son, John, of Sioux Center, and two daughters, Jennie (Mrs. Fred Kuhl) of Tea, SD, and Bertha (Mrs. Henry Schiebout) of Edgerton, Minn. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.
