On March 15, 1960, he married Dena Boeyink in Sioux Center. Dena passed away November 14, 1998, in Rock Valley. In earlier years, he worked with his father and at the Farmers Elevator. For many years, he was a freight hauler for Pals Transfer, which later became Ail-American Transfer. In semi-retirement, he cared for the tulip gardens in the city parks, all in Orange City. Mr. Van Leeuwen was a lifetime member of the First Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed visiting with everyone.
Survivors include his two sisters, Hermina Groen, of Hartley; and Anne Van Rennes, of Ogilvie, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Ruth Van Leeuwen, of Bellflower, California; and nephews and nieces.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by a brother, Woodrow Van Leeuwen.
