FUNERAL SERVICE: June 6, 2003, First Reformed Church, Sibley, Iowa
INTERMENT: Holman Township Cemetery, Sibley, Iowa
Wilma (Meyer) Van Kley, the daughter of Gerrit and Catharina (Van Bochove) Meyer, was born March 26, 1929 in Lynn Township, Sioux County, Iowa, south of Sheldon. She was raised on the family farm and attended rural country schools. She was united in marriage to Alvin Van Kley on
November 3, 1953 in her parent's home in Sioux County. The couple moved to a farm in East Holman Township and farmed until 1968, when they purchased an 80-acre farm in East Holman Township. Wilma was known to be an early riser and worked hard on the farm along side her husband. She also enjoyed gardening, baking, and making Strawberry Jelly for her grandchildren. In 1993 Alvin died, and Wilma continued to live and work the farm with her son, Curtis until
1999 when Wilma moved into Sibley. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sibley and active with the First Reformed Ladies Quilting Circle.
She is survived by five children, Karen (and Patrick) Flaherty of Bettendorf, IA, Curtis (and Peg) Van Kley of Sibley, Laura (and Larry) Oidenkamp of Ashton, Barb Roth and Dianne Kass, both of Sibley; fifteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Annie Boender of Hospers, IA, Alice Faber of Grand Rapids, MI, Joan Koel of Primghar, IA, and Nelvina Larson of Grand Rapids, MI; one brother, Willard Meyer of Sheldon, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerrit and Catharina Meyer; her husband, Alvin Van Kley; and one brother, Edward Meyer.
