Nellie was the daughter of Ben and Gertrude (Zwagerman) Vande Griend. She was raised at Middleburg. On February 1,1939, she married Steven Van Iperen at Middleburg.
They farmed in the Orange City area until 1962, when they moved into Orange City. "Steve" passed away June 30, 1992, in Orange City. Mrs. Van Iperen was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where she had participated in the Harmony Circle. She was an
organist and played in church at Middleburg in earlier years. "Nell" enjoyed reading, crocheting, quilting, and gardening. She spent much time caring for her many house plants. She was known as the "Cookie Grandma" to her great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her two daughters and their husbands, Dorothy and Justin Hofmeyer and Gloria and Larry Hoekstra, all of Orange City; six grandchildren, Leasa and her husband, Dean Vande Kamp; Deb and her husband, Gerald Bomgaars; Rhonda and her husband, Nolan Slagter;
Janna Hofmeyer; Michelle and her husband, Jason Alons; and Michael Hoekstra; nine great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Justin and James Hellinga; Cassie, Kayla and Kevin Vande Kamp; Jenny and Chase Slagter; and Kaelin Alons; a sister and her husband, Berdena and Adolph Bylsma of Hull; and a sister-in-law, Jessie Vande Griend of Orange City.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and their wives, Jake and Josephine Vande Griend and Pete and Dorothy Vande Griend.
