Sioux Center News, November 20, 1947

Sheldon Sun: John Versteeg, 65 banker in Sheldon for the past 35 years and prominent church man, passed away at his home, 612-3rd Ave., at 9:15 a.m., Monday, November 17, following a long illness. He had been bedfast since August of this year.

Plans for the funeral services are being made for Thursday afteroon, 1:30 at the residence, and 2 o'clock at the First Reformed Church. Rev. Jean A. Vis, his pastor, will officiate.

Mr. Versteeg came to Sheldon in 1912 from Boyden, where he had been in the banking business. Until last winter when his health began to fail, he was assistant cashier of the Security State Bank. He was an elder in the First Reformed Church and was treasurer of the Sheldon Holland Home association.

Surviving are five children: Mrs. Harold Hyink of Michigan; Mrs. James Vollmer of Sioux City; Melvin A. Versteeg of Sheldon, Cedric Versteeg of Sioux Center, and Henry J. Versteeg of California.
