HAWARDEN, Iowa — Tillie Holtrop, 86, of Hawarden died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1993, at the Hass Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Christian Reformed Church in Hawarden with Dr. Marvin Vander Vliet officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery. Arrangements at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home, Hawarden.
Mrs. Holtrop was born Feb. 16, 1907, in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands, the daughter of Hendrik and Grieje (Brouwer) Zwaan. She moved to Doon with her family in her early years. On Dec. 29, 1926, she married Louis Holtrop at Doon. The couple farmed near Doon for two years, and for seven years near Martin, S.D., before returning to the Doon area. They began farming near
Hawarden in 1944 and retired into town in 1955. Mr. Holtrop died May 3, 1987 and she moved to the care center in July 1993. Mrs. Holtrop was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of
Hawarden.
Survivors include five sons and their wives, Fred and Rena of Ireton, Henry and Mary of Phoenix, Ariz., Louis and Lori of Chicago, Elwyn and Jean of Lakewood, Colo., and Roger and JoAnn of Luverne, Minn.; two daughters, Grace and her husband, Gerrit Huenink of Hawarden
and Twyla Van Pykeren of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Nick Zwaan and his wife, Bertha of Hills, Minn.; a sister, Grace Bouma and her husband, John of Rock Valley; 25 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hilda Roozenboom and Gert Van Ketel; and three brothers, Pete, Ralph and Cornelius Zwaan.
