Father of Large Family Taken by Death

Ed. E. Vermeer, well known farmer, died at the Sheldon Hospital Friday noon after a very brief illness. Occasionally he had complained of pains, but was in good health until he was taken abed. Last Monday he was operated on in the Sheldon hospital. What was thought to be a plain case of appendicitis proved more serious; the appendix and intestines were bound by adhesions, causing a decay of the lining and the consequent poisons which carried him away. A second operation was performed Thursday evening, but the case was too far gone, and he failed rapidly Friday, passing away shortly afternoon.
Mr. Vermeer was 38 years old. He leaves a family of eleven children: Edna, Eldine, Hester, Mildred, Irvin, Floyd, Cynthia, Eleanor, W a l lace, Ruth, and Evert Jr . He married Alyda Borgman in February 1917, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. Borgnian, and together they lived a happy and active life.
Surviving Mr. Vermeer: Mr. and Mrs. E. Vermeer Sr., Mrs. P. S. Schut, Richard Vermeer,
Jake Vermeer, Dr. Garrit Vermeer, Sheldon, P. E . Vermeer, Mrs. Henry De Boer, Mrs. Asa Muilenburg, Mrs. Henry Ramaker, Mrs. Dr. Mol , Grumdy Center, Mrs. Bert Ramaker.
Mr. Vermeer carried the family name of Evert. Since Mr. Vermeer married they lived on the old homestead, one mile east and one mile south of Sioux Center, During these years he has been active in church work, secretary of the Delphic Society at the time of his death, and interested in community problems. His first interest, however, was always in his family. He was a quiet and sturdy man.
