Wendell Sumner, 73, owner of the Sumner Insurance Agency in Coral Gables, Florida died Saturday in Doctor's Hospital.

Mr. Sumner was the son of Wendell and Florence (Hoskins) Sumner who settled in Hawarden in 1895. He was born in Hawarden.

Mr. Sumner came to Miami in 1925. He helped organize the Coral Gables Masonic Lodge in 1926, and became Master of the Lodge in 1936. He was a member of the Mahi Shrine, the Elks, the Congregational Church, the Kiwanis Club and Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was a director of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and a director of the Coral Gables Country Club. He was one of the original members of the Greater Miami Insurance Board and a member of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia; a brother, James; a sister, Mrs. R. A. Teppema; and two nephews.
