From the Alton Democrat, April 16, 1904: Middleburg:

The two year old daughter of William Van Doorn died Monday morning [April 11] of lung fever [pneumonia]. Three children are still sick at that home.

It is likely that this is actually John, a son of William A. Verdoorn of Middleburg. The obituary of Mrs. William A. Verdoorn (Sioux County Capital, April 10, 1941) refers to a son John who died at the age of two years, and makes no mention of a daughter dying young. Obituaries of some of her other children also mention a brother John or Johnnie who died as a child. The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Ver Doorn, Johnnie, born 1902, died 1904, buried in Capel Township Cemetery, Middleburg.
