Henry Verdoorn, 83, of Hospers, died Tuesday in Orange City Municipal Hospital after a brief illness.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Hospers Reformed Church. The Rev. Carl De Jong will officiate. Burial will be in the Middleburg Cemetery under direction of the Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City. Mrs. Ray Van Dyke will serve as organist. "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Blessed Assurance" will be the selections.

Mr. Verdoorn was born August 14, 1897 at Middleburg. He married Anna Muyskens April 29, 1919, at Hospers. Most of his life was spent in the Hospers vicinity. In 1946 they moved to Boring, Ore., and returned to Hospers in 1965. He had lived at Heritage House at Orange City since April of 1980. He was a member of the Hospers Reformed Church.

Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Matt (Gertrude) Huisman of Hospers and Mrs. Albert (Diana) Sharer of Gladstone, Ore.; two sons, Donald N. of Boring and Henry Junior of Gladstone; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; six brothers, Dick, Bert and Tony, all of Orange City, Jacob of Seattle, Wash., Cornie of Ashton and William of Hospers; and four sisters, Mrs. Ann Oldenkamp and Mrs. John (Fannie) Oldenkamp, both of Hospers, Miss Marie of Seattle and Mrs. Lou (Gertrude) Engeltjes of Boyden.

He was preceded in death by a son, Henry Jr., one grandchild, brothers John, Joe and Johnny and stillborn twins.
