John Verdoorn, 73, of Orange City died Monday, February 2, at an Orange City hospital after a lengthy illness.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Frank Snuttjer, the Rev. Cecil Martens and the Rev. Carl De Jong officiated. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City. Family visitation was from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Van Gelder Funeral Home.

Mr. Verdoorn was born August 18, 1907, in Middleburg. He married Mina Aalberts Aug. 21, 1928, in Orange City. They farmed in Sioux County, operated a resort in Minnesota for eight years, and moved to Orange City in April 1980. He was a member of the First Reformed Church.

Survivors include the widow; three daughters, Mrs. William (Rose) Van Veldhuizen of Sheldon, Mrs. Bernard (Joan) Huizenga of Orange City and Mrs. Tom (Dorothy) Even of Alton; 16 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; seven brothers, Dick, Henry, Bert and Tony, all of Orange City, Jacob of Seattle, Wash., Cornie of Ashton and William of Hospers; and four sisters, Mrs. Ann Oldenkamp and Mrs. John (Fannie) Oldenkamp, both of Hospers, Miss Marie Verdoorn of Seattle and Mrs. Lou (Gertrude) Engeltjes of Boyden.
