Interment: West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City, Iowa
Gertrude was the daughter of John A. and Jennie (Popma) Muilenburg. She was raised at Orange City. On January 28, 1920, she married Edward Van Gorp at Orange City. They farmed in the Orange City area until 1947, when they moved into Orange City. They then became custodians of the First Reformed Church in Orange City, retiring in 1964. "Ed" passed away October 12, 1986, in Orange City. On April 6,1993, "Gert" became a resident of the Orange City Municipal Hospital Long Term Care Facility, where she passed away. Mrs. Van Gorp was a member of the First Reformed Church.
Survivors include five children and their spouses, Russell and Mildred Van Gorp, Lloyd and Hendrene Van Gorp and Esther and Peter Bos, all of Orange City; Donald and Alvina Van Gorp of Clarkfield, Minnesota; and Perry and Joan Van Gorp of Sioux Center; a daughter-in-law, Frances Van Gorp of Orange City; 19 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Van't Hof and Eunice Huitink, both of Orange City; and a brother, Nelson Muilenburg, of Orange City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Howard Van Gorp; three grandchildren, Daniel and Dennis Bos, and Debra Van Gorp (6 month old of Lloyd); a great-grandson, David Van Gorp; a sister, Henrietta Stander; and five brothers, Anthony, Frank, Howard, Elmer, and Marion Muilenburg.
