Ruth "Kate" Henery, 55, of Alton died Tuesday, Aug. 12,2003, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha after a long illness.
A funeral service was held on Friday, Aug. 15at 10:30a.m. at the Alton Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Wayne Sneller officiated. Burial followed at Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton, under
the direction of the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Ruth Katherine was born March 14, 1948, at LeMars, the daughter of William Alexander and Mary Justina (Hartman) Bell. She was raised at Alta and graduated from Westmar College in Le Mars with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

On June 6,1969, she married Rodney Alan Henery at Alta. They made their home in Alton where "Kate" operated a children's day care service in their home.
Later, she was the librarian at the Alton Public Library. She also co-authored the Alton Centennial Historical Book in 1983. After 1985, she was the Spanish and speech teacher at the Spalding Catholic School in Granville. Her frail health forced her to retire from teaching in late
1991.
Mrs. Henery was a member of the Alton Presbyterian Church, where she had taught Sunday School classes and participated in United Presbyterian Women and a circle, As a school teacher, she was active in state speech competitions. She also belonged to the Sioux Prairie Quilters.

Survivors include her husband of 34 years, "Rod;" threedaughters, Kristin Lara
and her husband, John Flaherty of Dodgeville, Wis., Justina Ane Henery of Woodbury, Minn, and Evalie Jean Henery of Marion; two granddaughters, Jessica Faith De Jong and Taryn Elisabeth Flaherty; a brother and his wife, Tom and Ellen Bell of Aurelia; a sister and her
husband, Ann and Paul Holstein of Marion; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by two sons, Chad Micah Henery and Seth Andrew Henery, and a sister, Mary Jean Bell.
