Mrs. Ray (Catherine) Meis, 70, of Granville died Thursday, Nov. 9 at the Orange City Municipal Hospital after a lengthy illness. Services were held Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville with the Rev. Robert W. Gralapp officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery under direction of the Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen.

Mrs. Meis, the former Catherine Nilles, was born Feb. 26, 1919 in rural Remsen, the daughter of Dominic and Mary (Arend) Nilles. She was raised and educated in the Remsen area. She married Ray Meis Sept. 26, 1939 in Remsen. They farmed near Remsen until 1942, when they moved to the Granville area and farmed until retiring and moving into town in 1971. She resided at rest homes in Council Bluffs, Le Mars and Paullina from 1976-79. She had resided at the Orange City Municipal Hospital since the fall of 1979.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Christian Mothers and of the V.F.W. Post 5347 Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband Ray of Granville; four sons, Bill and Ken, both of Crescent, Ronald of Honey Creek and Tom of Granville; a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Mary) Koob of Omaha, Neb.; a brother and two sisters, Francis Nilles, Mrs. Henry (Mildred) Harpenau and Mrs. Bill (Lucille) Christoffel, all of Remsen; eight grandchildren and two greatgreat- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son Robert; two brothers, Arthur and LeRoy Nilles; and a sister, Mrs. Nick (Bernedette) Gergen
