Gladys Schmitz died Saturday, March 10, 2012 at
Center in Sioux City, IA. Memorial mass 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 16, 2012 at Catholic Church in Struble, IA with Father Dan Greving celebrating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in LeMars, IA. Visitation will begin at noon, Thursday with family present from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Ireton, IA.

Gladys Rose Stangl was born October 16, 1925 in Carroll, IA to Alver and Rose (Bierl) Stangl.
She spent her formative years in Arcadia, IA with an aunt, Sophia Pill, following the early death of her mother. She graduated from St. Angela Girls Academy in Carroll in 1943. She married H.J. (Jack) Schmitz on April 21, 1947 in Arcadia. They resided in LeMars, IA where she was employed by Iowa Public Service until their move to Ireton in 1950 where they purchased an International Harvester dealership. In 1976, both she and her husband were active Real Estate Brokers until Jack's death in 1990. She later took a position as office clerk at the Orange City Hospital and Clinic where she worked from 1991 to 2004. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and ladies aid in Struble, IA.
Survivors include two daughters, Pam (Steve)Schmidt of Sioux City, IA and Barbara (Paul)Wiget of Mentor, OH; son, Clark (Carol) Schmitz of Brunsville, IA; three grandchildren, Kelly Schmidt of Sioux City, LA, Amanda Verros of Sioux City, IA, and Samantha Schmitz of Sioux Falls, SD; three great-grandchildren, Aaden Schmidt, Becket and Brinley Verros; half sister, Sandra (Dennis) Wurr; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Jack; her parents; an aunt; three sisters and their husbands; four brothers and their wives; and a brother-in-law
