Obituary: Rock Valley, Iowa:
Henrietta Kempema, 91, of Rock Valley, died Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Whispering Heights. Funeral service will be Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at First Christian Reformed of Rock Valley with Rev. John Engbers officiating. Burial at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley with family present 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to Hope Haven or Rock Valley Christian School and online condolences can be left at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Henrietta, daughter of Arie and Jennie (DeVries) Van Maanen, was born June 13, 1920 at the
homestead near Rock Valley. She married Herman Kempema on April 28, 1943 at the Van Maanen homestead. They lived in Rock Valley where she raised the family and was a cook at Rock Valley Christian School and also assisted Herman with janitorial duties at the school. She participated in the Foster Grandparent Program and was a member of Ruth Circle at First
Christian Reformed Church. Henrietta enjoyed crocheting and embroidering and she always had
coffee and bars to share at Grandma's house. Herman and Henrietta moved to Whispering
Heights October 31, 2008. Herman passed away on August 31, 2009.
Henrietta is survived by her children, Harlyn (Diane) Kempema of Rock Valley; Glenda (Fred)
Vollink of LeMars, IA; Wally (Jolaine) Kempema of Sioux Falls, SD; Arnold Kempema of Rock
Valley; Marvin (Lola) Kempema of Woodstock, GA; Curtis (Darlene) Kempema of Ventura, CA; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, John (Marvis) Van Maanen of Lakewood, CA; sister, Arta Kempema of Rock Valley.
Henrietta was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; grandson, Barry Vollink; brother,
Gerrit A. Van Maanen; sisters, Wilmina Winterswyk, Harriet Bakker, Margaret Kuiken.
