Winerva Ver Steeg, 69, of Rock Valley, died Monday, March 12, 2012 due to a fall in her home. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Saturday,
March 17, 2012 at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Rev. Gideon Wamala will be officiating. Visitation with family will be 6:00 - 8:00 pm Friday, March 16, 2012 at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley. Memorials may be
given to Christian School Music Fund and online condolences left at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Winerva was born September 9, 1942 at Rock Valley, daughter of August and Gertrude (Vanden
Berg) DeRuyter. She graduated from Western Christian High School and was in the first 4 year
degree class at Dordt College at Sioux Center, IA. Winerva married Tony Ver Steeg on December 29, 1965 at Rock Valley. They lived at Rock Valley where Winerva raised the family and was a teacher; piano instructor; organist at Calvin Christian Reformed 52 years; director of the community cantatas for many years; sung and accompanied the Dordt Concert Choir. She enjoyed scrapbooking and being with the grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Tony Ver Steeg of Rock Valley; daughter, Jolene (Alan) Bandstra
of Sioux Center, IA; sons, Nolan (Kari) Ver Steeg of Yakima, WA, Justin (Sheri) Ver Steeg of
Des Moines, IA; daughter-in-law, Shelly (Matt) Vande Voort of Orange City, IA; brothers,
Nelson (Karen) DeRuyter of Lynden, WA, Arnie (Janie) DeRuyter of Rock Valley; 8 grandchildren, Samantha Joy, Erin Joy, Alexandra Joy, Isaac Dean, Tessa Rose, Gabriel Theron,
Naomi Anilee, Nicholas Jay. Preceded in death by her son, Theron Ver Steeg; and her parents,
August and Gertrude DeRuyter.
