ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Nettie Mars, 96, of Orange City passed awav Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Christian Reformed Church in Orange
City, with the Rev. Timothy Ouwinga officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn
Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Oolman Funeral Home in
Orange City..
Nettie Alvina was born Dec. 6, 1911, in Marion, N.D., the daughter of Bert and Jennie (Vink) Te Brink. As a child, her family moved to Orange City, where she attended the Christian school. On Dec. 17, 1931, she married Peter Mars in Orange City. They farmed in the Alton, Sanborn and Maurice, Iowa areas, where she was a homemaker. In 1974, they moved into Orange City. They became residents of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City in 1996. "Pete" passed away Dec. 3, 1997, in Orange City after almost 66 years of marriage. In February 2004, she transferred to the Long Term Care Facility. ' She was currently a member of First Christian Reformed Church and a former long time member of the Ireton (Iowa) Christian Reformed Church. She belonged to the women's organizations in both churches and was a member of the Monica Society of the Orange City Christian School. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, sewing and needlepoint. She treasured visits from her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Survivors include five children and their spouses, Les and Lorraine Mars, Joyce and Henry Dykstra and Gerben and Helen Mars, all of Orange City, Donna and Gary De Haan of Sioux Center, Iowa, and Patsy and Calvin Bootsma of Ireton,
Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Dick and Lois Te Brink of Alton, Iowa, and Alfred and Jean Te Brink of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Amy Van Engen of Orange City; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Joyce and Nick Hulst of Orange City.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her grandson, Jared
Bootsma; two sisters, Dorothy Jacobsma and Bernice Mellema; and a brother, John Te Brink.
