Mr. Andy Van Dyk, age 77, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, October 9, at his residence.
There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, October 12, at 11:00am, at the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Jeffrey Sajdak will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service on Wednesday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Andy was born on October 28, 1927, in Gauw, Friesland, The Netherlands, the son of Johannes and Geertje (Stienstra) Van Dyk. He was raised in Gauw and Hitsum in Friesland, where he attended school. At the age of 20, he came to the United States.
On August 22, 1950, he married Wilmina Nibbelink in Orange City. He farmed near Orange City for 43 years, and then they moved into town. In semi-retirement, he was an assembly technician at EZ Liner in Orange City.
Mr. Van Dyk was a charter member of the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church and a former member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. He served as an elder, a deacon, and a Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the founding board of directors of Unity Christian High School in Orange City.
He enjoyed reading, woodworking and volunteering through the Christian Reformed Church World Relief Committee, Justice for All, and Crossroads Bible Institute.
Andy's family admired his ability to converse with anyone, his eagerness to help others, his persistence in prayer, his appreciation of humor, and his joy in sharing his faith.
Survivors include his wife of more than 55 years; six children, Geri, and her husband, Robert Van Ruler, of Sioux Center; Benita Postema, of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; Thea, and her husband, James Mouw, of Sioux Center; John Van Dyk, and his wife, Ellen, of Littleton, Colorado; Linda Van Dyk, and her husband, Eric Clambey, of Denver, Colorado; and Judi, and her husband, Tony Van Berkel, of Sioux Center; fourteen grandchildren, Jamie, and her husband, Eric Netjes; Kelly, and her husband, Jake Franken; Nicholas and Jonathan Mouw; Kristi, Jaclyn, and Megan Postema; Amy, and her husband, Paul Ross; Michael and Daniel Van Ruler; Chelsea and Benjamin Van Dyk; and Bianca and Lucas Van Berkel; three great-granddaughters, Emma, Olivia, and Anna Netjes; two sisters, Anna Marie Scheepsma, of Sneek, Friesland; and Tena Boertje, of Upland, California; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Van Dyk, of Chino, California; and Anna Wiersma, of Friesland; and many nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Trijntje Zwaagstra; and five brothers, Gerben Van Dyk, and Ynze, Jitze Piet, Jelle, and Sijbren Van Dijk.
