Came to This Vicinity-Thirty-three Years Ago Survived by Aged Husband and Seven Children
Mrs. F. W. Schiefen, for thirty three years a resident of this community, passed away at her home in this city about __ o'clcck last Friday evening following an illness of many months duration. Funeral services were held, at 10 o'clock Monday morning at St. Mary.'s Catholic church in this city. Solemn requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Bradley of Denison, a former pastor o$ the local parish as celebrant, Rev. Fr. Brnhe of Alton as deacon, and Rev. Fr. Sullivan of Hawarden as sub-deacon. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery here.

Catherine Young was born in Steuben county, N. Y., Aug. 10, 1857, and died at her home in Hawarden July 14, 1922, at the age of 64 years, 11 months and 4 days. On Nov. 18, 1873, she was united in marriage with F. W. Schiefen at Perkinsville, N. Y. In 1884 they came west and located on a farm in Sioux county, near Hospers, on April 5th of that year. They lived there for two years and then moved to Hospers where they remained for a year, going from there to Alton where they spent two years. They settled on a farm in Eagle township, 7 miles northeast of Hawarden, in July, 1889, which continued to be their home for many years. In February, 1906, they moved to Goodland, Kan., and remained there for five years, returning to their Eagle township farm in September,1911; Three years ago last March they purchased a home in Hawarden and have since resided in this city.

Eleven children were born to them; four of whom preceded their mother in death. Charles died in infancy; Mrs. Helen Hennrich passed away. August 1912, Mrs. Elizabeth Lang died April 10 1919; and Theodore died Sep 12, 1920. Besides her aged husband She is survived by six sons and one daughter: Will Schiefen of Hawarden; Sister M. Catherine of, Louisville, Ky.; Joe Schiefen of Goodland, Kan.; and George, Chris, Louis and Julius Schiefen of Hawarden. Her death is also mourned by three brothers, six sisters and twenty-seven grandchildren.

The brothers and sisters are Mrs. Mary. Lang of Perkinsville, N. Y.; Frank Young of Minneapolis; Mrs. Mollie Torey of Gliddan, WI., Joe Young of Chicago; Mrs. Elizabeth Beeler of Chicago; Mrs. Helen Emily of Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Anna Scott of
Fort Dodge, Iowa; Mrs. Angie Rohner of Patterson, N. J.; and Will Young of Sioux City. The sympathy of the community is extended to the members of the bereaved family in their great
loss.
