Alyda Kosters
Alyda Kosters, 93, of Sioux Center went to be with her Lord Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Mark Verbruggen
officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center attending.
Alyda (De Stigter) Kosters' life was one of service and devotion to her family, her church and Christian Schools. She taught for 39 years in several elementary schools including
Lynden, Wash., C icero, Ill., where she was known as Miss Alyda, and Sioux Center Christian
School. In her early retirement years, with her husband, she provided tireless assistance and tutoring to a Laotian immigrant family and traveled to Rehoboth, N.M., to do volunteer
work there.
She will be dearly missed by her three children, Joy and Dr. Peter DeBoer of Grand Rapids, Mich., John and Shirley Kosters of Broomfield, Colo., and Jenean and Ken Doornink of Sioux Center; her 14 grandchildren, Bonnie (Ron) Nyenhuis, Dr. Walter (Jesslyn) DeBoer, Peter (Nancy) DeBoer, Susan Baas, Denise (Ron) Vander Ploeg, Mike (Caron) Kosters, Kim (Tim) Bylsma, Kevin (Marnie) Kosters, Jeff (Carla) Smith, Joel Smith, Julie (Frank) Vita, Polly (Rod) Visser, Gerb (Bernice) Doornink and Kit (Kathy) Doornink; and her 31 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Florence Kalsbeek of Orange City, Iowa; a sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Norm Poel of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two brothers and sisters- in-law, Leonard and Ella De Stigter of Sioux Center and Cornelius and Penny De Stigter of Livonia, Mich.;
three sisters-in-law, Mina De Stigter of Sioux Center, Cecelia De Stigter of Escondido, Calif., and Elaine De Stigter of Grand Rapids, Mich.; sistersin- law and brothers-in-law, Delia and Henry Franken of Sioux Center and Dolly Franken of Redlands, Calif.; and many dear nieces,
nephews and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E. John Kosters; her parents, Lane and Barbara De Stigter; seven siblings, Helen Wassenaar, William De Stigter, Tunis De Stigter, Ada Schoo, Gilbert De Stigter, Peter De Stigter and Melvin De Stigter; and a granddaughter, Jeanne Susan
DeBoer.
