Harmelink, Gerrit, 1862-1940

Gerrit Harmelink died Saturday, Nov. 23 at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 8 days at his home in Orange City. Old age was the cause of his death.

He was born March 15, 1862 in Dexpelow, Gelderland, the Netherlands. When he was 3 years old, the family moved to Wisconsin. They came to Iowa when he was about 12 years old. Forty-eight years ago he was united in marriage to Janke Wagenaar. They lived on a farm near Newkirk until 1926 when the family moved to Orange City. Mrs. Harmelink died January 7, 1938. One sister and 2 brothers also preceded him in death.

Mr. Harmelink is survived by 9 children: Minnie, Mrs. Ralph Wiechers of Hawarden; Susan, Mrs. Ed Van Tubergen of Ashton; Gertrude, Mrs. Sam Post of Sheldon; Charley of Ashton; Joe of Hospers; Simon of Alton; Henry of Orange City; Cornie of Maurice; and Dorothy at home; 27 grandchildren; and 3 sisters: Mrs. Will Rexwinkel of Hospers, Mrs. Isaac Wormhoudt of Eddyville, Ia. and Mrs.
Will De Roo of Orange City.

The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:45 at the home and at 2:15 at the First Christian Ref. church with Rev. Mr. R. Bronkema in charge. Burial was made in the Orange City cemetery.
