ROCK VALLEY, Iowa - Ben Vanden Berg, 91, a lifelong resident of Rock Valley passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at Fellowship Village in Inwood, Iowa. Services will be 2 p.m.
Wednesday at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, with the Rev. Peter Bazen of Netherlands
Reformed Congregation officiating.
Ben was born to parents, John and Anne, on April 16, 1916, in Sioux County, Iowa. On March 17, 1938, he married Coba Kooima, daughter of Joe and Alice Kooima. Together, they had three children, John, Eldora and Don. For nearly his entire career, he farmed east of Rock Valley, one half mile off the Doon, Iowa, blacktop. He was cattlefeeder and particularly enjoyed trading cattle at the Sioux City Stockyards. Always active, he drove hay truck for his son, John, until he
was 80 years old. To share a cup of coffee or an evening meal with his friends at one of the local cafes was always important to him. He was blessed and thrilled to have been able to take a fivegeneration photo consisting of himself, his son, John (deceased), his grandson, Brad (Armour, S.D.), his greatgrandson, Joe (Armour), and his great-great-grandson, Brandyn.
He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Judina Vanden Berg (John's wife) of Corsica, S.D.;
a daughter, Eldora Leugs of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a son, Don (Adelene) Vanden Berg of
Lynden, Wash.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; greatgreat- grandchildren; and brothers-in-law, Gerrit Jansen and Elmer (Elsie) Kooima, both of Rock Valley.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Coba; his son, John Vanden Berg; two
grandsons, Clifford and Derek Vanden Berg; and siblings, Jennie Post, Jo (Kragt) Dorhout and
Al Vanden Berg.
